Lyrics of Hallelujah
(originally by Leonard Cohen)
I'd heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well, it goes like this
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well, your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to the kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well, baby, I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well, maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Songwriters: Leonard Cohen
Hallelujah lyrics jeff Buckley: "Hallelujah" is a melody composed by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen, originally released on his collection Various Positions (1984).
Achieving little initial success, the tune discovered more prominent famous praise through a chronicle by John Cale, which inspired a recording by Jeff Buckley. It has been seen as a "gauge" for secular hymns.
Leonard Cohen, the author of this song, stated, 'Hallelujah' is a Hebrew word which signifies 'Wonder to the Lord'. The song clarifies that numerous sorts of glory hallelujahs do exist.
I state, 'All the ideal and broken glory hallelujah have an equivalent worth. It's a desire to affirm my faith in life, not in some formal religious way but with enthusiasm, with feeling."
The second verse was in part propelled by the 2 Samuel Chapter 11-12 from the Bible, about King David and Bathsheba, his commander's wife. Another wellspring of motivation originates from the tale of Samson and Delilah.
